Data Mining

- Purpose

A.) Indicate the name of the innovation and provide a clear description of its intended purpose (such as the problem that the innovation solved, the opportunity that the innovation created, or the discovery that the innovation made possible).

Data mining is a method of using hardware to extract useful data that would otherwise be hidden by encryption software and programs. Data Mining can be used to gain insight and knowledge into how something works, and filter important information into standard text that is easy to understand. It has innovated in the creation of technology and business, allowing for the extraction of data tables of markets and raw source of data on a website or application. It has increased productivity and efficiency in both fields. Companies can reduce costs, increase efficiency, and streamline their work all at a low cost of hardware power. In general, data mining can be used to easily manage large amounts of data and extract important analytics from that information. Data Mining and Knoweldge Discovery

- Effects and Impacts

B.) Explain a benefit and/or harmful effect of the innovation.

One benefit of data mining is the fact that large amounts of data can be compressed and extracted by a model (or user) into smaller pieces of standard yet important information that is easy to understand. This will help businesses and users long-term and make it a lot easier to attain new data and analytics. A harmful effect of data mining would be the fact that it can take a bit of hardware power and time to do so, up to weeks or even months if the set of data is large enough.

C.) Explain the impact that the innovation has had on society, economy, and/or culture.

Data mining has had an extreme impact and importance economically. Businesses regularly use data mining to extract data and analysis of markets and industries to know specific information such as cost of items, wages, and more. Some of these uses have raised concerns though, as if someone gains access to these data tables, they can figure out information not intended to be publicly available.

D.) Indicate one field, other than computer science, which this innovation has impacted or has the potential to impact. Describe the impact.

Business and Industry. As stated above, they regularly use data mining as it is very convenient for many things. See above for explanation.

- Technical Aspects

E.) Describe how a user interacts with the innovation.

A user can interact with data mining by sifting and going through large amounts of data that’s recorded both using real-world actions and code if possible. Sometimes it may involve de-compiling binaries into human-readable code. There is large amounts of knowledge and insight you cannot gain or access without data mining and decrypting it.

F.) Describe in detail how the innovation's technology incorporates at least ONE of the Big Ideas of abstraction, algorithms, programming, and/or the Internet to accomplish its purpose.

Data mining can use and incorporate algorithms as one of its main components. You can use a sort of algorithm and intelligence to sift through large amounts of data to extract.
